Shen & Bones Performance Group at the Cleveland Public Theatre this week!

Our group is very excited for our Cleveland Debut at the beautiful Gordon Square Theatre for week 3 of CPTs Danceworks ’14.  We are sharing the evening with Cleveland-based Antaeus Dance Company.  The performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 24-26 at 7:30 p.m.  Friday is free beer night!

The performers are:  Max Balakoff, Jay Hanes, Kerrylee Hinkson, Doug Lodge, Laura Swedenborg and Lani Weissbach.

Shen & Bones Performance Group collaborates with NYC artist Roland Gebhardt and Erie Philharmonic violinist Louis Nicolia

In two 35-minute performances, three Shen & Bones dancers–Doug Lodge, Laura Swedenborg and artistic director Lani Weissbach brought the masks of Roland Gebhardt to life, all to the hypnotic music of Moondog, played by Louis Nicolia and his Half Moon Consort.  Performed in the beautiful Multipurpose Room at the Erie Art Museum, audiences could sip their favorite beverage while taking in the action from any angle of the room.   Stay posted for more performances of this work in the region!

Shen & Bones Performance Group at Allegheny College

On October 5, we presented another evening-length concert at Allegheny College titled “Betweens”.   A huge thank you to the Dance and Movement Studies Program for sponsoring us.   All the performers did a brilliant job!  There will be more photos coming, as well as video links.  What a fabulous time we all had…B_8308

Two new dancers to join Shen & Bones cast for upcoming concert “Betweens”

Exciting news!  Two dancers who have previously performed with Shen & Bones will be joining the group again for our upcoming dance concert “Betweens” at Allegheny College on October 5, 2013.  They are Laura Swedenborg (2000-2001) and Keegan Boulton (2005-2006).  Both are incredibly talented people and we are thrilled to have them join us for this performance.  Please mark your calendars for this performance, which starts at 8 p.m. at the Montgomery Performance Space on the college campus.  Admission is free!  For more information and reservations, please call: 814-332-2813.

I am honored to be a presenter at the SOMAfest in NYC on Oct. 11, in conjunction with ISMETA’s 25th anniversary. On Saturday, October 5, 2013, I will be teaching a butoh improvisation class in the Montgomery Performance Space at Allegheny College from 2-4 p.m.  This event is FREE and open to the public, as is our group’s performance that will be happening that evening in the same space, at 8 p.m. You do not need any experience to participate in this class–just come with an open and curious mind and ready to move!

Moving from Center: Contemporary Modern dance technique and improvisation for every body

When: Tuesdays, 9:30-10:30 a.m. First class September 3rd
Where: Girl on Fire Movement Studio, 2601 Peach St. 2nd Floor
Cost: $10 drop-in, $50 for a 6-class card
What to bring: Wear clothing comfortable for movement
This class will blend basic principles of contemporary modern dance technique with improvisation, emphasizing the capacity for ease, freedom and dynamic power within the human body.  Some of the concepts we will explore will include:  stability and mobility of the pelvis and joints; clarity of form, line and direction in the body and space, and; gravity, momentum, natural alignment and core activation for the integration of the body as a whole.  Breath work and imagery will heighten awareness and sensitivity.  Enjoy moving and being in a safe environment geared toward personal discovery and FUN!

Yoga and Beyond: A Contemporary Approach to Ancient Wisdom

When: Tuesdays, 6-7 p.m. First class September 10th
Where: The Village of Healing and Wellness, 2340 W. Grandview Blvd. Suite #9, Erie PA

What to bring: A yoga sticky mat, thick blanket and clothing comfortable for movement
Yoga and Beyond is a blend of yoga, contemplative dance, somatic movement and meditation designed to help us release unhealthy habits, feel more joy in the moment, and experience the gentle power of our innate life force. We will incorporate invigorating yet gentle yoga asanas (postures) with organic movement sequences geared toward creating ease of motion, core power, integration and balance. Mindfulness meditation will focus and soften the mind. Enjoy moving and being in a friendly and non-competitive environment. No experience is necessary.
